A business inspiration for Nyxt: Barnes & Noble

I recently read this interesting article: What Can We Learn from Barnes & Noble’s Surprising Turnaround?

For some unconscious reason, I remembered Nyxt and Atlas.

Bookstores and browsers are very different businesses. But, I can think of some similarities described on the article: the challenge of building financial sustainability, competition with big guys (Amazon for them, Microsoft, Google, Apple for Nyxt), the philosophy of putting users’ interest first, good taste, passionate leaders, bravery to try a different path/approach, originality, and decentralization by design.

There was also an interesting discussion on Hacker News about it.

I hope Atlas/Nyxt will thrive as Barnes and Noble seem to be doing!

Cool article @pedro-delfino, thanks!

Hope you’re doing well

Interesting connection you make here @pedro-delfino. I hope you don't mind if I ask you a question here.

context

If B&N is providing an environment...

"environment that’s intellectually satisfying—and not in a snobbish way, but in the sense of feeding your mind.”

I see the HackerNews discussion center around Libraries -- another interesting environment. (place to be/grow without spending money)

question for pedro

How would you describe the Nyxt environment? (or what you want it to be)

At least B&N isn’t Amazon…
